What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business?
Price transparency, as expected, is having an impact on business. Additionally, the diversification of product categories from the ‘known’ to the ‘new’ and even ‘unknown’ dictates the direction in which customer demand is moving. Pair this with an even faster
velocity of economic change and we as an industry, can sometimes find we’re not always quick enough to respond.
Where do you see the next big opportunity?
The one-stop-shop business model presents the next big opportunity with significant prospects. Resellers who gear their business to a growth category such as Facilities Supplies and enhance their offering with value-added services will find long-term buy in from their customers.
What would make your day job easier?
Like most people, the better use of technology would make life easier. Also, I find that two-way, open communication and feedback is vital to enabling a better service so we know that we are absolutely meeting customer requirements.
What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given?
Never forget the customer.
If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently?
Absolutely, I think anyone would do lots of things differently, but the key is to learn from your mistakes and adapt to do things better each time.
Describe your most embarrassing moment.
I was due to deliver a presentation and kept telling the VOW marketing team that the PowerPoint font was too small, despite any changes they made. It then transpired that I actually needed glasses. Safe to say, I was very embarrassed and apologetic!
