60 seconds with…Glen Constable, Managing Director, Parsia Managed Supplies Services

What’s currently having the greatest impact on your business?

Being part of the THS Group. We now have access to excellent in-house technical support, a much wider product range and also software solutions.

Where do you see the next big opportunity?

The foundations are in place and we are in a much better position to win new business. We have always had a good team, but now they have the additional resources from THS to support them. We are now able to offer own branding on the products.

What was your first job?

When I was 12 I delivered a free weekly paper. I was paid £2.00 for 200 papers. I also did a couple of hours gardening every week and was paid £2.00.

What would be your dream job?

For the past few years I’ve been helping to organise the village fireworks. It’s one of the main fundraising events with over 5,000 people attending. It takes a lot of time but the feeling at the end when it all comes to together is amazing, so maybe event management.

Fine dining and good wine, or curry and a pint?

If I have to choose one or the other then it would have to be curry and a pint.

What would make your day job easier?

Integrating the two businesses from a technical point of view was quite a challenge. We shared the same values so working together was never going to be an issue. We still have a lot to do, so building the expertise of the team is important, as this will ensure we can give the best service we can.

What’s the best bit of business advice you’ve been given?

Be aware of what is happening in the market around you. Stay true to your values and persevere with what you believe in. No one said it was going to be easy.

If you had had a crystal ball, would you have done anything differently?

Looking back over my working life, I would not change any of the decisions I have made. You learn from your mistakes and I’m a firm believer that it is better to have tried and not succeeded, than not to have tried at all. Even if that often puts you out of your comfort zone.

Describe your most embarrassing moment.

I haven’t had too many of these. I always try to think ahead and plan. Occasionally I would get caught out by my MD when I’d forgotten something that he had asked me to do. A situation best avoided wherever possible!

Money’s not an issue, what’s your perfect car ….and where would you like to drive it?

I’d rather be on two wheels (with an engine) instead of four. There are a group of dads that I tour with, we’ve been all over Europe, but one day we’ve promised ourselves that we will ride in the Rocky Mountains.

How do you like to spend your spare time?

I like to run to keep fit and enjoy walking, we have a springer spaniel that needs lots of exercise. There is always plenty of DIY to do and I have an allotment as well. We try to plan two trips per year away on the bikes. Our next trip is down to the Pyrenees.

Favourite holiday destination?

Anywhere we can be active, I’m not good at sitting still, so definitely not a beach holiday.
