Effective Consumable Solutions on capacity, capability, and recent success

Effective Consumable Solutions are known to be the UK’s largest remanufacturer of toner  with one of the biggest ranges stock including OEM toners and parts.

Their reputation was only enhanced further following this year’s Paperworld 2020 Exhibition in Germany as they beat off fierce competition from around the world to take home The Remanufacturer of the Year Award for the second year running, as well as The Collector of the Year for the fantastic work being done by their recycling scheme; The Greener Side. We wanted to know how this achievement was made possible, so we sat down with CEO Felicity Rabbitte to discuss some key components of ECS’s business.

ECS recently won two prestigious awards, how important is this for the company?
Winning both of these awards rounded off an already incredibly successful year at ECS. We’re delighted that our products and recycling service have been recognised with two of the biggest honours available in the industry. It goes to show how important our commitment and investment into our staff and infrastructure over the last two years has been in propelling us to the top of the industry, including investment into both capacity and capabilities for remanufacturing and recycling as well as investment into our technological capabilities and professional promotional campaigns.

Could you expand further on the topic of your investments over the last two years?
Stage one of our strategic overhaul is now complete, enabling us to forge new, more robust and flexible supplier relationships as well as helping us to further enhance our products core components; quality, performance, reliability and consistency. Investment into the expansion of a brand new 27,000 square ft remanufacturing plant with state-of-the-art filling machines and equipment has been one of the main drivers behind this growth and a major part of our initial strategy. We’ve also invested heavily in both training and recruitment as our recycling, production and office teams have expanded to meet the demands created by our new investments.

What impacts have been caused by this investment?
This new premises not only allows us to improve production capabilities and much needed capacity due to demand, but also brings all of our production operations and quality control under the direction of one technical team with the aim of streamlining operations while maintaining the high standards that ECS is known for. This has also freed up some much-needed space at our separate recycling plant, allowing us to bring over 1,000,000 empty cartridges through our doors every single year, preventing huge losses of raw materials and devastation to the environment. All of this together, including investment into our staff and marketing promotions, especially our distributor scheme, have helped us to deliver a strong operational and financial performance accompanied by our highest production volumes for over a decade.
