I couldn’t do my job without

Jon Arnold, VP of Sales, EMEA at RealWear, Inc. picks the tools he uses every day and couldn’t do his job without

1. My four legged companion
My first and most important choice is Layla, who is my eight year old yellow Labrador and is both my therapist and personal trainer. She has ensured that I am out most mornings by 6.30 and traipsing up the nearby hills of the South Downs national park. Her contribution to my mental and physical wellbeing during the last nine months has been immense. She is also very reliable; not concerned at all about social distancing, relatively inexpensive for the dual roles she plays and always available regardless of the weather.

2. Video conferencing
Zoom, Webex and Teams have been essential. The EMEA team has seen a huge increase in workload, and have spent most of their new normal working days in the virtual world of video calls. Without the robustness and functionality of those various platforms, we would not have been able to cope. So much so, that we have run communications skill workshops just to work out how to manage with our new intensive and extensive working days, and also learn the online tricks of looking nearly normal in the new normal working environment.

3. Internet uptime
The robust local network has been a saviour. I have battled a house full of kids; ranging from a teenage daughter studying A levels, to two early twenties sons exiled from London; all pretending to either work or study, whilst secretly watching Netflix, and a wife who at times struggled to shop for food and essentials online. Thank you Openreach for keeping it all going!

4. Remote working
I am fortunate to have access to a local office accommodation in a converted old stately home. When I realised that it was just about empty and COVID-secure, I escaped there to focus on the various online events that my very diligent marketing manager had planned in the absence of travel and exhibitions. Having to prepare and present to around four hundred people, was a lot less stressful in its echoey rooms. Working from near home, really is the best of both worlds.

5. Caffeine kick
Last, but not least, the Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker, that provides a constant source of caffeine. Depending on the size of the pod, it varies its output though, as I discovered one morning when it delivered twenty fluid ounces into a ten ounce cup. As you can probably guess, this was not great for the carpet.
